Eight skippers came to play on a beautiful day with plenty of sun and wind. The winds were shifty with many puffs and made for good racing and plenty of it. We completed 11 races with most of the time spent chasing the #90 of Gerry Provost. I am trying a new program for this scoring report, you read the results in column below the race #, and on the right is the final results with scores before and after the throwout.

Sept. 28, 2013 Nirvana Regatta results:
It was nice to welcome Jeff Zautner back from his bout with a lawn mower. Six skippers were awarded with very nice sailing conditions and there were some very close finishes. The day was notable for the sportsmanship and clean sailing at all marks, maybe due to the 720 degree penalty turn rule in effect for the event. Jeff was the dominate skipper of the day, with the only pressure coming from Peter. Seven races were run with one throw-out.

Jeff Zautner 7 pts
Peter Burns 13
David Groce 15
Dick Weaver 22
Bob McAnally 28
Arlin Geyer 30

5/25/2013 AYC Nirvana regatta results:
AYC sailed their scheduled regatta at Lake Tomahawk instead of Beaver Lake in preparation for Nationals after several rainy and high-wind weekends have kept everyone off the water.  Light winds greeted the 9 boats with freshening conditions near the end.  An occasional heavy gust made things interesting at times.  Various mechanical issues effected Gerry, David, Bill and Arlen.  The last race was held awaiting return of Gerry (mechanical) and Dick (who got tangled helping”).  This resulted in the last start well after 3 PM, preventing Bob from competing for 3rd/4th overall.  Results of the 8 races:
Bob (91):       1-7-3-3-5-7-5-9(DNS) = 40
Gerry (90):    7-2-1-2-1-4-10(DNF)-3 = 30 (3rd)
David (38Y):  3-5-4-9(DNF)-3-1-6-5 = 36

A chilly and blustery day led to spirited boat handling, much like last week’s Seawind regatta.  Newcomer Steve sailed his first regatta improving boat skills and landing one 3rd.  Nice job against multi-year vets!  Gerry was hampered by the only weed catches of the day (2), and David led early but a ran into a failing battery not caught until the last race, hampered his final showing.  Dick sailed consistently in the high winds, but gave up a share of the lead after the 5th race.  As usual, several races had the top 2 or 3 covered by short time gaps.  Steve presented a homemade baguette to Jeff, and the regatta was thus dubbed the .  Next Saturday, 27 Apr 1230 start for the AYC Nirvana regatta on Beaver Lake.
