Really nice conditions on Tomahawk yesterday. Wind was more variable than expected, and led to some close racing with the top 3 positions in doubt until the last race was run. Bill edged out Arlin for second on the throw out. Bobby dropped out early to help sail some giant sailboat with about a 6 foot sail. Hank struggled with a broken line before the start that left his shroud wires loose.

Winds started light, and after first race we shortened the course. Good sailing, but lots of rubbing here and there as the wind never allowed any great upwind legs. Gerry seemed to have the lake wired after the first couple of races and a redress for David due to a tangle led to a close decision on 3rd place.
Dick (33) 10-5-8-7-5-4 =39
Arlin (71) 4-2-2-3-10-10 =31
Jeff (87) 2-1-3-6-3-2 =17 (2)
David (38) 1-8-5-2-4.4-6=26.4
Gerry (90) 3-4-1-1-1-3 =13 (1)
Hank (36) 5-7-6-4-2-7 =31
Steve (99) 10-9-7-9-7-5 =47
William (61) 6-3-4-8-4-1 =26 (3)
Dennis (68) 7-6-9-5-6-8 =41

Great weather and 10 boat turn out made for nice sailing. Check the results posted, no change at the top, but a “penmanship error” led to two math errors. Only placing change was to break the tie between the 30 and 36 boats.
Arlin (01) 1-7-1-1-3-4-3=20 (1)
Bill (44) 7-2-5-5-4-3-4=29 (4)

Hank (36) 9-5-4-6-2-7-6=39 (6)

Two other boats started, Jeff (87) and William (61), but both had mechanical issues and did not finish the first race. Gerry had a line problem that made for a late start on race 5. Dick (1) had no problems, Gerry was second. Weather was great, weeds only a minor problem.

Asheville 4/18/2014 results:
Winds were fair just before the start, then the near doldrums set in as 4 sailors took the gun. Every sailor held the lead in the first race, with Jeff and Gerry both struggling at the west mark, one each per lap. A dog fight ensued after from the final mark to the finish. Arlin prevailed by a starboard tack out, then carrying port tack to the line. Jeff came across second. Gerry fouled on he mark, but still finished 3rd. David languishing near the finish for 4th.
Why all the detail, well, after one race the rain was picking up and the wind was dead. Thus ended the April Nirvana Regatta. Arlin, Jeff, Gerry and David

Entering the last race, Gerry and David were tied for first place and the racing was close nearing the last mark before the run to the finish line, and then Gerry was victimized by weak batteries and David capitalized on Gerry’s misfortune.
